Admission Requirements in Germany for Pakistani Students
Don’t rely on assumptions. Admissions and application processes in Germany can be overwhelming if you are applying first time from Pakistan or South Asia. Academic Qualifications
For bachelor’s programs, students with 12 years of education. A-Level students may qualify for direct entry. Master students need a relevant 16-year bachelor’s degree
English Language
For English proficiency, the most common tests are IELTS and TOEFL . Some universities also accept the Duolingo English Test or a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter.
Academic Documents
You must submit certified copies of all your academic documents, including transcripts, degrees, and certificates. Crucially, these documents need to be attested by the HEC of Pakistan.
German Language
For programs taught in German, you must demonstrate the required language level. A Studienkolleg typically requires a B1/B2 level in German. Universities may require C1 level or equivalent.
Valid Passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 12 months beyond your planned stay in Germany. It should also have two blank pages. A copy of the passport’s identity page is required for the visa.
Financial Resources
To prove you can support yourself, you must open a blocked account (Sperrkonto). For 2026, the required amount is approximately €11,900 (approx. PKR 35 lakh). This money is deposited before you apply for your visa.
Student Visa Requirements in Germany from Pakistan
- APS Certificate Since November 2022, Pakistani students must obtain an APS (Academic Evaluation Centre) certificate before applying for university admission and visa.
- University Admission You need a confirmed admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid) from a recognised German university or a conditional admission for a preparatory course (Studienkolleg)
- Blocked Account You must deposit approximately €11,904 (approx. PKR 35 lakh) into a blocked account to prove you can support yourself for one year. The amount is €992 per month.
- Health Insurance Valid health insurance is mandatory. You need travel health insurance for your arrival period, plus enrollment in German statutory health insurance (~€140/month).
- Language Proficiency For English-taught programs: Provide IELTS (6.0–6.5), TOEFL, or Duolingo scores, or a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter or demonstrate B2/C1 level.
- Valid Passport & Documents Your passport must be valid for at least 12 months beyond your stay. Prepare certified copies of certificates, transcripts, the visa form, photos, a CV, and a motivation letter.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes. Since November 2022, all Pakistani students should get an APS (Academic Evaluation Centre) certificate. This is mandatory requirement, or their admission will be denied.

Most institutions want IELTS 6.0–6.5 or a comparable TOEFL score for English-taught courses. Some colleges welcome a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter verifying your past degree was taught in English. For certain courses, such Management and Digital Technology at TUM, a GMAT might also be required.
Not for English-taught course. But some colleges, such TUM, need evidence of basic German (A1 level) by the conclusion of your fourth semester. German-taught courses need B2/C1 TestDaF or DSH level evidence.
Yes. Students from outside EU region are allowed to work 140 full days or 280 half days per year. Student assistant roles at universities are treated differently. However, you should not rely on part-time income as your primary source of living.
For Pakistani students whose school-leaving certificates are not accepted in Germany, the Studienkolleg is a one-year course they can complete. Usually, Pakistani students having FA/FSc have to finish Studienkolleg before beginning a bachelor’s degree.
